Why did Hitler troll because of wearing short pants during WW2?

What people think is a joke about Hitler wearing shorts during the World War II is based on a misconception. The infamous pictures of him in shorts or in German leather pants (lederhosen) are not fake, however they were captured years earlier in 1920s and early 1930s. By then he is not yet a leader of Germany. Hitler disliked these photos later since he believed that the photos made him look ridiculous. He wanted to be perceived as a strong and an important person and those old pictures did not represent him.

At the beginning of the war, Hitler was much different in the way he dressed. He wore almost exclusively a simple uniform of the military to resemble the head of the armed forces. No genuine photos of him in shorts at all during the war.

The misunderstanding is probably a side effect of propaganda during the wartime. Cartoons and posters that ridiculed Hitler were created by allied countries to present the image of Hitler in an amusing manner so that he appeared weak. It was not even indicating what he actually wore to the war, but it was an attempt to smear the image and demoralize the Germans.

That is why the story is the combination of old photos that Hitler did not like and afterwards propaganda that is created to mock him.
