A summary of the movie Psycho 1960

Marion Crane works at a real estate office in Phoenix, Arizona. She's been in a long-term relationship with her boyfriend, Sam Loomis, but they can't get married because of his financial struggles. One day, a wealthy client pays $40,000 in cash for a piece of land, and Marion is tasked with depositing the money in the bank.

But Marion suddenly makes a bold and risky decision—she'll steal the money and run away to start a new life with Sam. She drives away from the city with the cash. It starts to rain at night, and while looking for a road, she ends up at a small, isolated motel—the Bates Motel. The owner is Norman Bates, a quiet, gentle, and shy young man who seems completely harmless at first.

Norman gives Marion a warm welcome and invites her to dinner. During their conversation, Marion learns that Norman lives in the house next to the motel with his mother, who is very ill and confined to her bed. Marion notices that Norman has a strange fear and excessive loyalty toward his mother. After dinner, Marion returns to her room and decides to return to the city the next morning to give the money back.

But it's too late for Marion...

Marion goes to the bathroom to take a shower. From the side, a figure is seen slowly approaching the bathroom. A shadowy female figure emerges from the darkness with a knife in her hand. She lunges at Marion and stabs her to death. The blood mixes with the water in the shower, and Marion's lifeless body falls to the floor.

Norman Bates buries Marion's car and her body in the ground. He is terrified and keeps mentioning his mother's name, making it seem like his mother murdered Marion. But the story isn't over yet.

Marion's sister, Lila Crane, and her boyfriend, Sam Loomis, begin searching for Marion. A private detective, Milton Arbogast, also starts investigating. The detective goes to the Bates Motel and questions Norman. He begins to suspect that Norman is hiding something. Arbogast then secretly breaks into the Bates' house to investigate. As he climbs the stairs, a shadowy female figure with a knife suddenly attacks and brutally kills him.

Now the suspicion that Norman's mother is a killer seems even stronger. But let's look a little further.

Then, Marion's sister, Lila, and boyfriend, Sam, decide they will go to the Bates Motel themselves. Sam keeps Norman busy with conversation while Lila secretly enters his house. Lila reaches the upstairs floor and sees the body of an old woman sitting in a chair. But when Lila touches her shoulder, the body crumbles—it's a skeleton! This means Norman's mother died years ago.

Suddenly, Norman appears from behind, but this time, he's wearing women's clothes, holding a knife, and his eyes are filled with madness. It's clear that he's embodying the "Mother" persona himself.

In the end, it's revealed that Norman has a split personality disorder. Many years ago, Norman murdered his mother and her lover. But consumed by guilt, he kept his mother's personality alive inside him. Whenever Norman feels attracted to women, his mother's personality takes over and compels him to kill them. It was Norman himself, posing as "Mother," who killed Marion and Detective Arbogast.

Finally, Norman is arrested, but by then, "Mother" has completely taken control of his mind. He sits calmly, thinking to himself:

"They'll think I wouldn't even harm a fly..."

The story ends with this cold, chilling dialogue.
