The man whose spine was bent at a 170-degree angle

From a young age, Jiang suffered from a rare and severe form of arthritis known as Ankylosing Spondylitis. This is a condition where the bones of the spine gradually fuse together, making the spine rigid and bent. Over the years, living with this disease, Jiang’s body literally folded in on itself. His head was bent so far back that there was almost no space left between his skull and his back. His height was reduced to just one meter.

The physical pain did not deter Jiang. Despite his severe physical deformity, he never gave up his education. It was impossible for him to go to the exam hall for his college entrance tests, so he took the exams lying on a mattress. Through sheer intelligence, he earned a spot at Dezhou University to study Energy and Power Engineering. His dream was to one day walk on his own feet to receive his master's degree.

Last year, the turning point in Jiang's life arrived. A team of expert doctors in Chengdu took on his case. They decided to perform four extremely complex and high-risk surgeries. These operations were a huge challenge for medical science.

The doctors broke Jiang's spinal bones and rearranged them, miraculously straightening the 170-degree curve!

The final surgery lasted for more than 12 hours. At one point, the lead surgeon was so exhausted and the situation so complex that he was forced to continue the operation kneeling on the floor.

After these four operations, Jiang was able to lie down straight for the first time in 21 years of his life. He is now undergoing rehabilitation and is slowly moving closer to fulfilling his dream of walking upright.

Jiang's mother said with tears in her voice, "The doctors were our last hope. My son's dream has come true today."

Jiang’s story teaches us that with human willpower and patience, no obstacle can hold a person back.
